Announcing Pittsburgh ALT.NET

Sunday, November 18, 2007 10:07 PM

What does it mean to be to be ALT.NET? In short it signifies:

  1. You’re the type of developer who uses what works while keeping an eye out for a better way.
  2. You reach outside the mainstream to adopt the best of any community: Open Source, Agile, Java, Ruby, etc.
  3. You’re not content with the status quo. Things can always be better expressed, more elegant and simple, more mutable, higher quality, etc.
  4. You know tools are great, but they only take you so far. It’s the principles and knowledge that really matter. The best tools are those that embed the knowledge and encourage the principles (e.g. Resharper.)
If this sounds like you, then you may be interested in Pittsburgh ALT.NET.  Pittsburgh ALT.NET is the consortium of ALT.NET fans local to the Pittsburgh area.  If you're interested in looking outside of the mainstream for alternative techniques and solutions to your most common problems then this group is for you.  Pittsburgh ALT.NET will be an informal, pub club style meeting space where like minds will meet to share ideas and philosophy on .NET development as well as development in general.  This group is meant to be a compliment to similar groups in Pittsburgh like Pgh.NET and the Coding Dojo and is definitely not intended to compete with them.

If you're interested in being part of this new group, drop me an email, check out the site, or join the mailing list.  We'd love to have you!

Our first meeting will be on November 30 at 6 PM, location TBD.

Hope to see you there!
